In Megan’s Words

Chasing Sunshine is hope, a sense of purpose, an outlook that is fresh and continuously inspired despite life’s twists and turns.

My outlook on living took on greater meaning when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2012.

Alongside my sisters at Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), I would like to introduce you to the possibilities in health, life and cancer care, particularly integrated health.  We would like you to know that there are options all around you, and that it’s up to you to decide what is right and best.  There are so many opportunities for learning, and we’re committed to sharing valuable information and experiences that may help guide you along your path.  It’s been 10 years since we began hosting wellness retreats for breast cancer survivors, and moving forward, intend to grow our reach and commitment by providing inspiring and informative content, starting with my own story Chasing Sunshine, the film.

In it, you’ll learn of the path that lead me to snowboarding, B4BC, my husband David Carrier Porcheron, and where I am today.  You’ll also learn of the choices I made, all very personal and to some controversial, throughout my breast cancer journey.  This journey, with an outcome yet unknown, is a positive one which I continue to write each day.  I hope that by continually sharing my experiences, I may motivate you to live life to its fullest, make choices that feel right to you, understand that every moment is expansive, and imagine a world full of wonderful possibilities despite any perceived challenges.  Maybe through me you’ll gain the sense that any obstacle, cancer or otherwise, is an opportunity for healing, growth and exploration.

Without a doubt, my experiences as a pro snowboarder and B4BC ambassador have prepared me for this next part of my journey.  I am humbled by the outpouring of love since my diagnosis and have gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of community and connecting with the world around you during the most vulnerable of times.

So, with that, let’s embark down this road together – our heads lifted, our hearts full and our eyes towards the horizon – chasing sunshine every step along the way.
